A lipoma is a benign (non-cancerous) lump that develops under the skin. These fatty growths are usually soft to touch, slow-growing and harmless, but many patients choose to have them removed either because they are uncomfortable, increasing in size, or visible in a cosmetic area.

Scarring and Healing After Lipoma Removal
Immediately after lipoma removal, you will see a noticeable change as the lump under the skin is gone. The area may look slightly swollen or bruised, and in most cases a small incision line will be visible. Where dissolvable stitches are used, these will sit under the skin surface and gradually break down as the area heals, so there is no need for removal.
In the first days following treatment, the site may appear red or raised, which is a normal part of early healing. As swelling settles, the scar will begin to flatten and fade. Most patients find that scars become significantly less visible within a few weeks, continuing to soften and blend with the surrounding skin over the months that follow.
The final cosmetic outcome depends on the size and location of the lipoma, but our surgeons always place incisions carefully to minimise scarring. Many scars heal as a fine line and are often difficult to notice once fully matured. Protecting the area from sun exposure and following the aftercare advice given by your surgeon helps ensure the best possible result.

Extremely happy with the service in the clinic. I had my lipoma removed from Dr Marcus and his assistant Shantel. It was my first time having small surgery and I was so worried as the lipoma was 4cm and it was located at the back of my head. Dr Marcus was so gentle and professional.
