A small mole on the lip can be a cosmetic concern or cause irritation when eating, speaking, or using skincare products. While most lip moles are harmless, many patients choose to have them removed for comfort or appearance.
This case involved a 3mm benign mole on the lower lip, which was removed under local anaesthetic.
The Mole Removal Procedure
After assessing the lesion and confirming it was benign, the area was numbed with local anaesthetic to ensure the procedure was pain-free. A precise excision was then performed to remove the mole in full.
Bleeding was controlled (haemostasis), and the site was closed with 6/0 Vicryl Rapide dissolvable stitches, chosen to minimise scarring on the delicate lip tissue. A thin layer of chloramphenicol ointment was applied to keep the wound clean and support healing.
The mole removal process was quick, and the patient was able to leave the clinic the same day.
Immediate Results and Photos
The after photo taken straight after the procedure shows a fine line at the site of the mole, with the stitches in place. At this stage, the area often looks slightly swollen or pink, which is normal and will gradually settle over the following days.

While the appearance immediately after surgery may look more noticeable than the original mole, the wound heals quickly. Within one to two weeks, the redness reduces, stitches dissolve, and the area blends more naturally into the lip.
Recovery and Healing Process
Patients are advised to:
- Apply Vaseline twice daily to keep the area moisturised
- Avoid picking or rubbing the stitches
- Keep the area clean and avoid unnecessary irritation
- Return to the clinic if there are any concerns (free aftercare follow-up is provided)
Over the next few weeks, the area will continue to smooth and the scar will fade. By 2–3 months, most scars on the lip are barely visible.
Because the full mole and capsule were removed, the chance of recurrence is very low.
When to Seek Review
Although complications are rare, patients should seek review if they notice:
- Increasing redness or swelling
- Yellow discharge or signs of infection
- Pain that worsens after the first 48 hours
- Any concerns about healing
Our clinic offers free aftercare and review to ensure the wound heals properly and to answer any questions during recovery.
